Can I draw your attention to a new teaching resource that makes use of environmental film to explore the complex issues surrounding tropical deforestation, the commodity chains which drive it and some of their impacts.
The film, ‘Green’, has won many of the top international awards available in the last two years. It is extremely accessible, thought provoking and, as it happens, is about the length of a lecture (45 mins). It is free for anyone to use.
We have constructed a website (www.studyinggreen.wordpress.com) which combines access to the film with a series of short essays by a number of different scholars from Geography, Anthropology and Film and Media Studies about different issues the film raises. Then there is a response from the filmmaker as well as some suggested discussion topics and further reading.
Please have a look at the site and consider incorporating it into your classes.
